Storyline for Below the Surface
When Emily Libert and her parents move to the small, charming town of Oak Park in her junior year, for its excellent art program, she finds it challenging to fit into the close-knit community. Until Oliver Jacks also arrives. The two form an instant bond, which develops into their first love. With a few other friends, they begin to feel accepted by the town.
However, when Oliver’s instant football success aggravates the reigning star, Matt Graft, and his girlfriend, Lexy Roth, it upsets a long-standing balance in the school. Tensions boil to a climax at a spring party, when a drunk Matt provokes a disagreement between Ollie and Emily. Add a physical altercation later in the night, and it sparks a sequence of dire consequences when Matt does not return home.
In shock over Matt’s sudden disappearance, Oak Park turns on the two newcomers. While Ollie becomes the prime suspect, Emily also faces scrutiny. Emily condemns their ignorant accusers, even while harboring her own doubts and making false accusations.
Where is Matt? And will accusations destroy someone, even a whole community,
before he is found? Emily may learn, too late, the dangerous lesson
of judging others too quickly.

I get excited entering book stores. A fresh notebook, a new pen, a pristine novel...the possibilities are exhilirating!
Writing has always been a constant in my life, through every change. It began with my first travel diary at age six, detailing every aspect of my journeys. This love of writing led me to become a highschool English teacher in my hometown of Vancouver, Canada. Soon, the heartfelt issues my students shared in their writings motivated me to pursue a Master`s in Counseling.
A marriage and two daughters later, I found myself creating childrens books for them and teaching adult creative writing classes in the USA.

Life then took us to Switzerland, where I taught international students English and writing skills, as well as worked as a freelance writer for a local expat magazine, Basel Life.
In our recent move to the Netherlands, I finally wrote Below the Surface, a YA story I have been wanting to write for years. It is inspired by a real event. Currently, I am writing a women’s fiction novel which delves into finding our courage again as women mature.
I know writing will continue to perplex, intrigue, and comfort me throughout the rest of my life, and I'm so grateful for that.
